readwriteweb.com — Enterprises continue to adopt web technologies and 'web 2.0' trends, but there are two common threads to this adoption. One is that web technologies are step-by-step being adopted by enterprises, but they aren't yet ready to usurp many desktop software apps. The Google Apps vs Microsoft Office debate currently raging is proof of that.

"web 2.0 is all about open-ness and collaboration"Er, no --web 2.0 is all about the mispillt pagenam. Back in the good 'ol days of web no-point-0 -- if I 'member it correctly-- we used to call this sort of community thing "Usenet" I think... or maybe it was "Circle-Jerk"...or maybe both together --yeah that's the ticket. Heh! how 'bout "Klustr-phuck" thats a great web 2.0 site name ...(/bitter 'ol man sarcasm)Really isn't this web 2.0 false distinction meme so 2005. Haven't we moved on?

Imo, this thing they keep calling "Web 2.0". I doubt it's primarily tech driven. More like numbers-driven. Get enough people moving their lives online and the tech gets pushed along. A critical mass of some sort.

At the end of the day, companies reserve the right to do what ever they want to their employees internet privledges. I go to a military instituion and we are blocked from sites like myspace, youtube and many others. while this treatment sucks, it is their right as the person footing the bill. the same is true with other businesses. If they are paying for the bandwith, they reserve the right to prohibit employees from using/visiting sites they deem inappropriate or hazardous to the company.
