tuaw.com — FireWire 400 ports are no longer included in the redesigned MacBook. The old style MacBook (now selling for $999) still includes FireWire 400, but the new beauties are FireWire free. What a bummer! Back in January, we listed lack of FireWire as one of the biggest downsides of the MacBook Air.

I didn't realize this - Jobs never mentioned the lack, just that it was still available on the MacBook Pro.

If you are going to drop a feature, at least add something to replace it. Right now there is no replacement for Target Disk Mode. No replacement for higher transfer speeds than USB 2.0. If I had to get a new Macbook, my mini-DV camcorder and Lacie drive would be paperweights. Suuuuuucks!

As someone who works for an authorized service center, I can honestly say what the hell apple? Target Disk Mode was THE most useful tool in fixing computers. Also, I was holding out to get a new macbook- but due to the lack of firewire, and seeing as I'll be using it for video, I'm just going to get the old black macbook at a discounted price..Thanks for nothing, apple.

Doesn't it still have Firewire 800. Which, the last time I checked, was the upgrade to 400. Just like USB went to USB 2. The only difference is that USB kept the same connector, Apple decided to change for some reason which is basically what should piss everyone off. I'm not sure, but doesn't Target mode work with firewire 800? So the only problem is that you need a 400 to 800 connector when you want to connect old and new.
