Well, if I can just do the sudo get-apt, then I should be ok. I have Xubuntu on it and working, so I might just DL the new desktop. If anyone has the sudo command, assuming there is one (remember I am new), for beryl/compiz that would help. If not, I'll just digg around for it, when I get home.

PolyGone, use the ubuntu forums, they are a great help with all things ubuntu. if you can get xubuntu running, do an apt-get install ubuntu-desktop and it will load ubuntu for you.hth

have you tried the latest version? If my memory serves, getting an nvidia card to work is trivially easy. You MAY have to open Synaptic, edit the settings for the list of repositories and turn on anything that says "Universal", and then search for "nvidia", then restart (log out and back in). Or it may work out of the box, I don't remember. And installing Ubuntu itself is also trivially easy - the installer pops up a few windows and doesn't ask you much other than your time zone, and it's off...One reason people lean towards command line stuff in forums is that it's a surefire thing - just copy and paste into a terminal and you're set. It's a lot harder/more tedious to explain "click here, then here, then here" and post screenshots of what it should look like. But I understand why you'd rather use the GUI.
