timesonline.co.uk — For Sony, the 2006 Tokyo Game Show was a chance, after a series of embarrassing mistakes, to prove that PlayStation still deserves to dominate the video games market. But fans and analysts were united in the view that the PS3, despite the superiority of its technology, has failed to demonstrate its ???wow??? factor.

Yeah I'm going to rest my case as well :D People who love PS2/1 will still go for a PS3 and people who loved their xbox allready have an x360. It's as simple as that. The only difference happens when people start switching and that all depends on the exclusive games imo. And most of the gamers will probably get a Wii as well at some point.

I disagree. Just take a look at the sticker price of the PS3. That generates plenty of Wow! factor as in - "Wow! - that's too expensive!!" By the time you add a second controller and a couple of games and maybe a Blu-Ray movie. your walking out of the store by dropping over 800 bones! No thanks. I'll pass.

Seems to me it was a pretty good WOW factor when Sony decided to lower the price on the 20GB PS3. The price was in Japanese currency of course but according to news sources the price is around $400 U.S. ( one news article quoted $412). So what does this mean - We could be getting a PS3 in the States here for $400. Another misconception is the price for the $600 PS3. Sony has always left the higher price model up to the Market. They have repeatedly said that they are not setting any price restrictions on the up model. The $600 pricing was an estimated price base on the lower models $500 price tag.Now that Sony has lowered the price tag to nearly $400 U.S. and added HDMI support to the lower price model, it will be hard for resellers to justify selling a up model PS3 for $200 more just to add WIFI, Bluetooth, and 40 GB more in space. Its only natural that the price for the up model PS3 will come down too - if the up model doesn't come down in price blame the resellers not Sony since the Resellers are setting the price.Ultimately, its the games that show the WOW factor of the hardware not flashy theatrical advertising. From what I've seen coming from the press at TGS, the first generation games on the PS3 have way more WOW factor than anything first gen on the Xbox 360 - especially first generation launch titles. First generation games on the PS3 have set the bar really high for second and third generation game titles. What will be interesting is to see if PS3 second generation games can top PS3 first generation games. IF they can you bet that Sony will hold on to the number one spot in the console war."We need more gamers not haters"Peace

This is total bulls**t, wow factor. Pff. They are launch games. Almost all launch games suck and are more tech demos. Its not until a console has developed and developers know how to get the most out of the system that a game will really shine. Also they complain about PS3's games not being original. WTF! Nintendo's games consist of Mario this, Luigi that, Wario over here, and link over there. Lacks originality my ass.

That's nice superkendall, but it all reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer designs a car. The car has everything, big screen tvs, 100 cupholders, buitl in fridge, recliners, etc... It's perfect! It's also so expensive that no one will buy it.

markob - Since you asked what wow I would want...I hope PS3 games look better that N & 360. If parity exists that will be bad for you know who...I don't want to have to worry about BR and based on pc reviews of the drives it's negitive and home theater buffs say HDDVD is better so I don't want a 2nd class HD drive (with cell being so powerful PS3's BR should be a burner for the price)...nobody is doing a smear on Sony, they have had mucho bad news in almost every corner of the co. and the press etc. have beat it to death...

The PS3 is lacking the wow factor, in that I don't want to rush out and buy it. I want to buy the Wii very badly, it has the wow factor; it makes me want to play it. The 360 had the wow factor, and still does. When I see a video for a Wii or Xbox 360 game, I am immediatly happy about the possibilities, and I want to play that game right away. The PS3 has the wow factor, only for a few games, like Assassin's Creed, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Assassin's Creed has been officially announced for the 360.

The web that Sony is getting tangled in is they are advertising not only WOW, but they are basically saying it does have desktop computer quality gaming. I do agree, not may give the wow factor. One company usually does a year. This year is Nintendo's and they defiantly hit a home run with their presentation and gamers seem to be agreeing
