My grandfather has Alzheimer's. He lived with my parents and I for a few years before he got worse to the point where he had to be put in a home. My dad would jokingly tell me that if he ever got to be like that, to take him out back and shoot him. I know he's joking, but I can't help but think there's at least a tiny bit of seriousness behind it.
As funny as this may sound to many people, as someone who has had my grandparent go through this illness, this is a very smart thing that they have done. They don't want their residents to feel scared or trapped because it is unlikely they know where they are. This gives them the idea of freedom while still keeping them safe.Mike Klander
