factcheck.org — McCain claims he "supported every investigation" into the government's role regarding the hurricane, when in fact he twice voted against an independent commission. The McCain campaign accused the Obama campaign of "tired negative attacks" for pointing out and documenting McCain’s gaffe.

"Oh, and calling people "dummy" when someone simply asks you to substantiate your allegations simply highlights your own intellectual deficiencies. Don't like it? Grow a thicker skin yourself."And his waterheaded response of "Yup, Dem Libruls ar flip flopprs, durrrr." was intellectual? You seem to mistake my "dummy" comment as being upset, when it was merely pointing out my opinion of the reply to my comment. Trust me, when it comes to thick skin, I'm covered in that department. As for flip-flopping, I'd say that saying you support protecting the right to own guns in front of one crowd, while telling another that you support citywide or even statewide bans on owning guns in front of another crowd would be about as good of an example of "taking diametrically opposed positions" as needed here.

Obama has explained his philosophy on compromise before. In cases where he knows that he can't get exactly what he wants, he votes for that which brings progress -toward- it. That's not selling his principles, that's called working -toward- a goal. It's called being realistic, and favoring metered change over a futile bunker mentality that leaves us in a bitter and divisive stalemate. We need a heck of a lot more of that in our government instead of this childish stonewalling.

Good point, barackalypse. Only thing is, this article is not about our taxes paying to rebuild N.O. The article is about McCain voting against creation of a commission that would determine where the faults lied with our response to Katrina.

McCain is the obvious heir to the Reagan --> Dubya --> McCain theme: some people will always choose an amiable dunce over any alternative that threatens their self esteem by demonstrating knowledge. In that context, inconsistency is perfectly acceptable.

You have absolutely NO idea who Stalin was.Try talking to survivors of the gulags{for The Chief Administration of Corrective Labor Camps and Colonies — Главное Управление Исправительно-Трудовых Лагерей и колоний, Glavnoye Upravleniye Ispravitel'no-Trudovykh Lagerey i koloniy }Most Gulag inmates were not political prisoners, although the political prisoner population always was significant. People could be imprisoned in a Gulag camp for crimes such as unexcused absences from work, petty theft, or anti-government jokes. About half of the political prisoners were sent to Gulag prison camps without trial; per official data, there were more than 2.6 million imprisonment sentences in cases investigated by the secret police, 1921-1953Sound like anyone you know?I still remember in 2003 Ann Coulter saying all of us against the war were traitors and needed to be rounded up and any comedian making jokes @the White House's expense even more so.
