physorg.com — The first few weeks at university can be a difficult time for freshers as they attempt to settle in to their new academic and social life. Researchers at the University of Leicester have found that a high proportion of freshers use the internet to smooth the settling-in process.

Just to put in an opposite point of view to everyone above, I'm totally happy I have Facebook, and I wouldn't be having as much fun at university without it. Without having met people on Facebook (prior to arrival at uni) I wouldn't know anyone now. I get on with my flat mates, but we don't have enough in common to go out together. My closest friends are the people I met online before I even got here. I'm rarely on Facebook now, because I'm always out with them. Not everyone is obsessed with it.
