blog.facebook.com — Mark Zuckerberg: "Somehow we missed this point with Feed and we didn’t build in the proper privacy controls right away. This was a big mistake on our part, and I’m sorry for it. But apologizing isn’t enough. I wanted to make sure we did something about it, and quickly. So we have been coding nonstop for two days to get you better privacy."

If you had a friend as a stalker...he still would have access to the exact same information.

Almost as 'retarted' as your spelling. And the AOL metaphor is terrible. With an AIM conversation, it was relatively private to begin with (although unencrypted Internet traffic is never private...). You were never private on Facebook to begin with. The mini-feed simply highlighted that fact to everyone.

That's true, that they don't create distinction between the two, but its for that reason that I don't accept just acquaintances as friends. However, I would be all for two levels of "friendship" in the Facebook world, where acquaintances can only see smaller changes, but friends have full acecss. But I doubt that change is ever coming.

Blocked? WTF.My school advertises on it because it is a good way to get messages out to the students, just as good as the campus newspaper if not better.

To everyone saying that they don't want to be flooded with all of this info just click the triangle on the left of the mini-feed on you're profile and their you go. The home page can't be any more annoying than myspace adds that you have to click through when you log in.and I have to completely agree with intent. you are releasing all of this info. If people want it they can get it. It may be scary to see it all in one place so you realize how much info is their but it's your own fault it is their.

@ModernTenshiAgreed. However, I'd bet my marbles on money being the key issue here. With all of the bad press they've gotten over the past few days, I bet their ads/marketing folks have been having a tough time. Which leads him to pander to the crying masses.

I was really impressed with this move by Zuck. People complained, he listened and he took action. This really shows the power of social networks and open-minded developers. I want Tom to ask me next time before he implements a Britney Spears ringtone popup.

OK, here's the deal. It's hard to holler at [number] girls if they are all getting instant and direct newsfeeds about what you're posting on their walls and who you're becoming friends with. If one posts "HEY SORRY I HAD TO LEAVE SO EARLY THIS MORNING!!!" on your wall, then sorry, but you are f**ked.Do they all have to be your facebook friends? Yes. Do I want them knowing s**t about me? No, not unless they have a reason to look and find out for themselves. Not that I'm a player, but it's nice to have some freedom when you're single. So, I welcome the new privacy settings.
