I surf off the oregon coast, where there are lots of Sea Lions. I have had them come within 1 a foot of me and my board before. It is scary as s**t, when you are out all by yourself, but every time all they do is come up look at you, maybe bark some, then swim away. To this day I have never heard of one attacking a surfer, and these things are huge.
