Neither Google nor the big telecoms are totally happy: the FCC failed to adopt Google's proposed ideas, but did support at least two kinds of open access that AT&T and Verizon aren't very enthusiastic about.

You're just making this s**t up, man. Google did not explicitly say this. They were not "explicit" at all about removing themselves from the auction if their proposed ideas were not met. In fact Richard Whitt's response to such questions heavily suggested Google would continue to bid despite the lack of regulation.Like.. what the hell?

Seriously, if Google doesn't win this, and we're stuck with decades of closed, divided networks on cellphones, kiss the possibility of amazing phones goodbye. I'm tired of buying my phone with the plan. Dumbass FCC, not seeing the light of innovation.

Wikipedia tells me that they've been around for a while, but until they started sticking signs up everywhere last month, I hadn't heard of them either. Small wonder, since I had no idea what they did. The signs said "Cricklet wireless", but I didn't know if that was voice or data.

The FCC is not what stands between you and beter Telcoms, the FCC is what stand between you and unregulated, unadjusted million watt RF fields coursing through your body, probably giving you cancer. While I dont believe the FCC should have the right to "auction" spectrum, they are a necessary evil for making the airwaves the least bit useful. We rely on them to make sure devices don't interfere with each other (imagine if something hot and new like the iPhone caused, oh, say Television to stop working. Who gets to keep using their device?), we rely on them to make sure there are standards our devices can use to interoperate (so that your Sony devices will talk with your Toshiba ones) and we rely on them to wrangle things into the proper frequencies and mediums (Local fire departments shouldn't be on HF, where they have worldwide coverage, because it would be useless to them). Without the FCC, we wouldn't be able to coordinate police, fire, 911 calls, phone numbers, etc. etc.

Wireless Market is NOT a Duopoly: WIRELESS MARKET SHARE IN US..... AT&T 27.1% Verizon 26.3% Sprint Nextel 23.6% Others 11.9% T-Mobile 11.1% Also, AT&T's pockets aren't twice as large as Verizon's....serriously do you just make this stuff up? Don't you know you can google this info?
