engadget.com — Yeah, we're pretty much all peeved by Apple suddenly ejecting all traces of Google Voice from the app store, but now it looks to have drawn the ire of the Federal Communications Commission, as well. Hey, while you're at it, can you see about Skype and Slingbox for us, too? Thanks.

There are existing alternatives, but that doesn't mean it's a free market. It's still impossible to break into that market without buying a license and getting government approval.

Let's hope they get around to working on Skype over 3G too. That would be awesome!

@enantiodromiaI'm quite libertarian and usually in support of "free markets" to an extent but there are times when intervention is required. Say you buy a new automobile. Then a certain corporation invents a new fuel that allows everyone's car to obtain twice the gas mileage, however your car manufacture decides to put out a memorandum saying that no one is allowed to sell this new fuel to owners of their automobiles. So while everyone else is at the pump fueling up with the latest in technological advancements, you are stuck filling up with the same old product wondering what's going on behind the scenes. Not everyone can just sell what they own and get another product. When you buy a product you buy it in good faith that the manufacturer will treat you fairly. When they don't, it's time to ask some questions.

It's really the consumer's responsibility to keep the company in check, not the FCC. If you don't like their over-reaching hand, don't buy the product. Apple created it, Apple Licensed it, and you agreed to the EULA. I'm an Apple basher because I think they're too closed - so I choose not to buy their products (free market principles at it's finest). To require the gov't to sort this out for us is a bit ridiculous. Instead, use Android, WinMo, or the Pre. I was wondering why Eric Schmidt was so buddy buddy with the Administration.

FCC is not helping us, they are just helping Google.

I agree that you should voice your anger at Apple. Please do. The best way to do that is with your support, or lack thereof. The thing I object to is getting big brother involved when it is convenient. It is ok as long as you agree with what they are doing. If they were trying to block apps then most people would object, but to whom? I prefer the "If you don't like it don't buy it" policy and big brother can stay out of my business - even if it might benefit me.
