Speaking from someone who has been going through the process... You need to remember that this is the DoJ and that the FBI is TS clearance and above. It's not like you go in interview and get hired and go to work the next week... You first get a "conditional offer" (meaning they'd like to hire you IF and when you make it through the background/poly/drug/etc) and then... You wait, and they call you to talk, and then you wait, and then they ask you a question and then you wait, oh wait and then you wait. Moral to the story is you can't touch a thing till you get cleared and at any point during your background investigation they can dismiss you for no reason whatsoever. So its best to have a job, get a new one or understand that you may waste anywhere from many months to multiple years of your life waiting to get cleared.
No thanks. I'm not worried about the qualifications, the background checks, the tests, or the pay. But there is no way I would want to live in the Washington D.C. metro area. That place is a nightmare. I visit my sister out there every once in a while and after about 2 days I'm ready to leave. Its over crowded, people are rude, everything is ridiculously expensive, and its still growing. If the FBI wants to stick me in a branch office in Indianapolis, then sign me up!
