So that justifies assaulting an innocent person by throwing her on the floor and tasering her? If he was concerned for anyones well being he would have handled the situation differently, maybe by asking for another officers help or just talking to her without pushing her for any personal information. The video speaks for itself, she didn't want to give up any information, just wanted her child to be taken care of, the cop got mad cause she wouldn't answer his questions and tried to leave. Then he went on a power trip, grabbed her, threw her on the floor and tased her after she was subdued.
"In the US (and UK, and seems like in Canada, too), if you try to exercise your rights that are given to you by law, or just simply don't behave as you're ordered, you'll get beaten up, locked up, tazered." Yup!I think the mindset of thoughtful people here in the US is very similar to what you describe for the "police state" you grew up in: most of us just keep our heads down. And that includes refusing to say what we think, even among our closest associates. The politicians and "opinion leaders" deny reality and the conventional mass media refuse to call them on it, the "thought police" of political correctness patrol our public institutions, "hate crime" laws have put the government in the business of mind reading and the government may lock any of us up at any time on suspicion of being a "terrorist." Most of us, admit it or not, are a wee bit frightened. Somehow, George Orwell's Big Brother has been implanted in our minds and we are afraid to resist!

I agree,It's sad but better than what these parents were doing to babies before these laws.
