@tadsexington69Yeah, I keep going back to what Bill Maher said once: "I would be a Republican if only they would".The ideals of the party bears little resemblance to the practices of the party.Republicans in politics today are corporate fascists who don't mind big government as long as it increases profits. Most of their "followers" are just that, followers - not real Republicans. They ape the party rhetoric and don't really understand it. Real conservatives don't have a party representing them today. I guess the Libertarian party comes closest. If the Republican party would go back to their conservative roots (conservative as in, conservative advancements of government, and not the judgmental "government dictates your way of life" bs of today's religious right wing wackos), they'd be in much better shape and might actually get support from some of us on the left who want some social safety nets while still maintaining our civil liberties.
None of that matters. What matters is that the pharmaceutical and private prison companies lobbying congress want it illegal. What matters is that the shadow government makes money trafficking drugs. What matter is that Wall St turns profit laundering drug money. Marijuana will not be legal until corporate lobbying and the shadow government are eliminated.
There isn't even any evidence that smoking pot has any of the dangers of tobacco! If there was a link between toking and lung cancer, they'd be parading that in front of the media.
Since the nation does not have the will to fight the drug war in the way it should be fought, then perhaps we should just go ahead and let drugs be made legal. Number one, it would take the big profit right off the top. Number two, all those who succumb to brain fry could be controlled in pens, or perhaps like everything else we do now days, we could contract their care to the Chinese. Did you ever study how the Chinese dealt with their drug using population? They own us anyway, maybe we won"t have to wait long for a solution.
Legalizing all currently illegal drugs could take the profit out of them and undermine the power/profits of dealers and growers worldwide. In fact, after legalizing drugs, we could tax them heavily and pay off the national debt. That said, laws concerning impaired driving and inappropriate public behavior, for whatever reason, must be enforced. We cannot protect people from themselves. The failure of prohibition proved that. It's time to consider this option. Let other people's choices be their choices.
"Actually he didn't" Didn't what? It doesn't matter anyway. He suggested that MJ leads to this other stuff by putting those words in the mouths of people not there to speak for themselves. He also makes the suggestion when he lists off all kinds of drugs in increasing levels of danger by starting with MJ as if to suggest "start with weed and you'll be poppin' oxicontan by the end of the year."

Man, Whatever. What about coffee, tea, chocolate? All substances that kill a craving. Everyone is on some addictive substance or another.
