"There ya have it folks, your tax dollars at work, the military retiring a perfectly servicable aircraft so they can make room for their new toys... just like the A10 and A6... hell the A-10 is probably a better all-around aircraft than most.just my $0.02"I'm sure they'll sell them to other countries (canada), not just throw them away.
"There ya have it folks, your tax dollars at work, the military retiring a perfectly serviceable aircraft so they can make room for their new toys... just like the A10 and A6... hell the A-10 is probably a better all-around aircraft than most."It's not the in acquisition cost that gets ya, it's the maintenance and upkeep. Yeah, the F-14 has some great capabilities, but it was designed prior to an all-volunteer military; in other words, manpower was not so much an issue. And to the rocket scientist who said that the F-22 might have a carrier version: you're smoking crack. The entire airframe would have to be re-designed and reinforced to withstand carrier landings/catshots, and naval strike warfare needs more than the two internally carried JDAMs on an F-22... oh, excuse me, the F/A-22. The Air Force bought a vowel when they went 1 billion over budget on that one.
@TwinklyJesusWith pencils we have spelling errors, with guns and F-14's we have loss of human life. With a twig instead of a pencil, no innocent words would be misspelled.
I will never forget the site of a F-14 overhead when we took Kandahar in Afghanistan. As a Marine grunt I didn't know that the F-14 could carry bombs. Later on I sure was glad that they could!
Two kinds of naval vessels: Subs and Targets. Carriers and their air wings are good only for gunboat diplomacy and actions against tin pot banana republics. They would last about 5 minutes in an all out war.
