Look, all you who have swallowed the government and corporate Kool-Aid: how can you BELIEVE anything BIG OIL SAYS??? You are willing to ACCEPT their assertions that they ONLY MAKE 5 cents per gallon of gas? Are you even a tiny bit SANE????? Do you REALLY think it's just "coincidence" that EVERY YEAR GAS PRICES HAVE CLIMBED IN THE LAST 4 YEARS Exxon-Mobil's PROFITS CLIMBED... by BILLIONS each year? DOH?????Look, all you BIG OIL and GOVERNMENT LIAR / ENABLERS and APOLOGISTS out there... gas IS NOT something that is trivial to the American people NOR the American economy... READ THE NEWS... it's a FACT that food prices are rising EXPONENTIALLY and RECENT FORECASTS predict further "SIGNIFICANT RISES" food costs for NEXT TWO YEARS, MINIMUM!!! It's a f**kED UP deal, people... the government ALLOWS Exxon and others, especially SLIMY FUTURES TRADERS to MONOPOLIZE and CONTROL the PRICES OF GAS IN AMERICA. DO NOT try to tell us to "let the free economy work it's magic," BECAUSE it's NOT a "free market," when it comes to gas and oil... the gas and oil prices and supplies are STRICTLY controlled by about FOUR companies... that is NOT a free market, it is a CLOSELY-KNIT MONOPOLY!!!And because Exxon-Mobil and the others have bled the American people dry, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION, our "government" EASILY forced us blindly down the path into the "ethanol fantasy." OUR GOVERNMENT and government-funded scientists CONVINCED the American people that ETHANOL was our savior... our way out of the whole "foreign oil" trap. SO... millions of tons of grain has been diverted to ethanol production in the last few years... grain that is normally used to FEED our livestock... our chickens, our turkeys, our egg-laying hens, our cows, both meat and dairy cows... our pigs... and that diverted grain left a GAP in the supplies... so NOW the price farmers pay for grain to feed their LIVESTOCK has skyrocketed... and THAT means you and I pay MORE and MORE and MORE for chicken, dairy products, BEEF, pork... MILK.So while Exxon rapes us on gas prices and controls supplies, etc., with what SHOULD BE an illegal monopoly if anyone ever got around to INVESTIGATING... our government assists them BY IGNORING their activities and refusing to set SOME sort of price control on, WHAT AGAIN, IS NOT A "FREE MARKET" enterprise, but an ESSENTIAL AMERICAN NECESSITY controlled by a MONOPOLY! Gas is American's life blood and our government is allowing us to BLEED UNSTAUNCHED...and is COMPLICIT in attempting to BREAK US FINANCIALLY and to STARVE US... Yep, I said it. Our government was/is the driving force behind the whole "ethanol scam" and I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that OUR GOVERNMENT did not KNOW, in advance, what effect DIVERTING millions of tons of grain to ethanol production would have on our food supplies and economy. WE PAY EGGHEADED GOVERNMENT THINKERS / SCIENTISTS and GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR to KNOW THESE THINGS and to STOP stupid s**t BEFORE IT HAPPENS...I cannot believe SOMEONE in our government and it's myriad of paid scientists and economists NEVER ONCE SAID "Hey, dudes... ethanol from grain won't work... it will ruin the food supply chain." And IF one chooses to believe that our government KNEW this would happen in advance.. what does that mean? Is our government overtly attempting to bankrupt AND STARVE the American people? A few years ago I would have thought such "conspiritorial" assertions were TOTALLY NUTSO... but now... I am beginning to wonder... in college I was forced, in a social studies class, to study Marx... I REMEMBER that THIS is how he said governments begin to close in on their people... how they begin to oppress and CONTROL the populous... they slowly bleed you... slowly break you financially... slowly convince you that things "like ethanol" that are really BAD for the country are actually GOOD because THEY can use that thing as a TOOL to take MORE and MORE from you. Eventually, when the middle class vanishes and all you have is either the poor or the wealthy... then the government REALLY steps up the CONTROL... and when, during that OPPRESSION PROCESS... according to Marx (yeah, I KNOW...Marx was a loon according to a lot of folks, but just bear me out here... I never believed it either, but I am starting to REALLY wonder...) WHEN the people start getting up in arms the government will "throw them a bone" to placate them just enough to divert their attention so the government can get back to it's master plan of acheiving TOTAL CONTROL of the people... yep... Marx mighta been nuts, but THIS whole thing going on in America right now is EXACTLY what HE was talking about... can WE really afford to KEEP ignoring this CRAP???? And because people ARE starting to SHOW Washington that we are unhappy with the economy by SLOWING down our purchasing, and COMPLAINING... what does Washington do? Why they are gonna “THROW US A BONE”... TAX REBATE CHECKS... TAX REBATE CHECKS FOR EVERYONE, EVEN THOSE WHO DON'T PAY TAXES... to placate us.I'm telling ya people... Marx is looking SMARTER and SMARTER ALL THE TIME HERE...Don't drink the Kool-Aid... the economy hasn't been "just fine" the last 3 years because folks kept buying things despite the constanty rising fuel costs... yeah, people were still buying things because they were using their CREDIT CARDS to OFFSET the sudden impact of gas prices and food prices on their lives... and NOW ALL those bills are finally coming due and people are defaulting because THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT ALL... it's all catching up with people and Exxon is feasting on our starving bodies. And let's talk, for just a moment, about the futures traders who, along with Big Oil, CONTROL gas prices: Those f**kERS trade on FEAR... they RAISE the price of GAS ON US for every little "fear" that arises on this planet... someone SAID there MIGHT be a war in the Congo... futures traders raise the price of gas based on that fear... someone fears there might be a cold snap this winter... futures traders raise the price of gas... someone fears Iran might do something stupid... futures traders RAISE THE PRICE OF GAS... and HERE'S THE f**kIN THING: when THE THINGS THEY FEARED DO NOT HAPPEN... WE don't get a "f**kin rebate" we don't get a f**kIN REFUND on the HIGH GAS PRICES WE PAID... those f**kERS get to KEEP IT ALL, AND THEY are protected and SANCTIONED by... who? whom??? OUR GOVERNMENT.And to those APOLOGISTS who want to tell us we should just lie down and take it up the BUTT because "Hey, gas prices are over $5.00 a gallon in FRANCE..." I say. SO f**kIN WHAT??? This is AMERICA... the ENTIRE WORLD's f**kIN GAS SUPPLIES and the DISCOVERY OF THOSE OIL FIELDS AND THE TECHNOLOGY TO GET THE OIL AND GAS WAS DEVELOPED BY... THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER... WE are the ones who DISCOVERED the oil fields in the middle east... WE are the ones who set up the drilling rigs, etc., WE are the ones who FIGURED IT ALL OUT, SET IT ALL UP AND THEN... we just GAVE it all to THEM... The AMERICAN taxpayer and the AMERICAN PEOPLE have FUNDED all that AND we have funded MANY more projects that have AIDED people all across the world... we FUND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR in AID to other countries... WE FUND medical research and computer science projects that have VASTLY improved the lives of MOST people on this planet... so PARDON ME if I think WE should get a LITTLE f**kIN BREAK ON GAS PRICES, ESPECIALLY when the f**kIN LOONEY LEFT in our own country won't LET us drill HERE for our OWN oil.I am ashamed that I voted for George Bush in the last election... many folks tried to convince me before that vote that he had / has his hands in the pockets of "Big Oil," and I did not believe them... now I do. It's all just TOO coincidental to be a coincidence. He has protected Big Oil at the cost of the American People and our economy. He has protected Big Oil and out-of-control Futures Traders at the cost of our FOOD SUPPLY and abilities to SAVE money, buy homes, and feed our families. I am ashamed that I voted for him and I am ashamed of HIM.
Pelosi: Save the Planet, Let Someone Else DrillBy Charles KrauthammerFriday, August 1, 2008; A17House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opposes lifting the moratorium on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and on the Outer Continental Shelf. She won't even allow it to come to a vote. With $4 gas having massively shifted public opinion in favor of domestic production, she wants to protect her Democratic members from having to cast an anti-drilling election-year vote. Moreover, given the public mood, she might even lose. This cannot be permitted. Why? Because, as she explained to Politico: "I'm trying to save the planet; I'm trying to save the planet."A lovely sentiment. But has Pelosi actually thought through the moratorium's effects on the planet?Consider: 25 years ago, nearly 60 percent of U.S. petroleum was produced domestically. Today it's 25 percent. From its peak in 1970, U.S. production has declined a staggering 47 percent. The world consumes 86 million barrels a day, the United States, roughly 20 million. We need the stuff to run our cars and planes and economy. Where does it come from?Places such as Nigeria, where chronic corruption, environmental neglect and the resulting unrest and instability lead to pipeline explosions, oil spills and illegal siphoning by the poverty-stricken population -- which leads to more spills and explosions. Just this week, two Royal Dutch Shell pipelines had to be shut down because bombings by local militants were causing leaks into the ground.Compare the Niger Delta to the Gulf of Mexico, where deep-sea U.S. oil rigs withstood Hurricanes Katrina and Rita without a single undersea well suffering a significant spill. The United States has the highest technology to ensure the safest drilling. Today, directional drilling -- essentially drilling down, then sideways -- allows access to oil that in 1970 would have required a surface footprint more than three times as large. Additionally, the United States has one of the most extensive and least corrupt regulatory systems on the planet.Does Pelosi imagine that with so much of America declared off-limits, the planet is less injured as drilling shifts to Kazakhstan and Venezuela and Equatorial Guinea? That Russia will be more environmentally scrupulous than we in drilling in its Arctic? The net environmental effect of Pelosi's no-drilling willfulness is negative. Outsourcing U.S. oil production does nothing to lessen worldwide environmental despoliation. It simply exports it to more corrupt, less efficient, more unstable parts of the world -- thereby increasing net planetary damage.Democrats want no oil from the American OCS or ANWR. But of course they do want more oil. From OPEC. From where Americans don't vote. From places Democratic legislators can't see. On May 13 Sen. Chuck Schumer -- deeply committed to saving just those pieces of the planet that might have huge reserves of American oil -- demanded that the Saudis increase production by a million barrels a day. It doesn't occur to him that by eschewing the slightest disturbance of the mating habits of the Arctic caribou, he is calling for the further exploitation of the pristine deserts of Arabia. In the name of the planet, mind you.The other panacea, yesterday's rage, is biofuels: We can't drill our way out of the crisis, it seems, but we can greenly grow our way out. By now, however, it is blindingly obvious even to Democrats that biofuels are a devastating force for environmental degradation. It has led to the rape of "lungs of the world" rain forests in Indonesia and Brazil as huge tracts have been destroyed to make room for palm oil and sugar plantations. Here in the United States, one out of every three ears of corn is stuffed into a gas tank (by way of ethanol), causing not just food shortages abroad and high prices at home but intensive increases in farming, with all of the attendant environmental problems (soil erosion, insecticide pollution, water consumption, etc.).This to prevent drilling on an area in the Arctic one-sixth the size of Dulles Airport that leaves undisturbed a refuge one-third the size of Britain. There are a dizzying number of economic and national security arguments for drilling at home: a $700 billion oil balance-of-payments deficit, a gas tax (equivalent) levied on the paychecks of American workers and poured into the treasuries of enemy and terror-supporting regimes, growing dependence on unstable states of the Persian Gulf and Caspian basin. Pelosi and the Democrats stand athwart, shouting: We don't care. We come to save the planet! They seem blissfully unaware that the argument for their drill-there-not-here policy collapses on its own environmental terms.
""I saw someone characterize our profits the otherday in terms of $1,400 in profit per second. Well, they also need to understand we paid $4,000 asecond in taxes, and we spent $15,000 a secondin cost...We spend $1 billion a day just runningour business. So this is a business where largenumbers are just characteristic of it.""-

Exxon should be required to invest 3/4 of that profit into clean energy research and production...... but it won't happen.
