news.yahoo.com — Brian O'Neill, an attorney with the enormous law firm Faegre & Benson who represented numerous Alaskans after the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989, spoke to the Huffington Post's Sam Stein about the prospects for Gulf Coast fisherman and other would-be plaintiffs harmed by the colossal BP oil spill in the region. He didn't exactly mince words.

The judges are prejudiced against "pro-se" do-it-yourself plaintiffs. Remember, the judges used to be lawyers, they belong to the same caste.

Class action is the way to go. If you get sued and can't defend yourself, then brush up on your legal skills and meet with a lawyer once a week.

j4200 is right about joining a class action, but to be fair to BillE3, he wasn't saying you'd win. He was saying you could really screw up BP for a long time. To follow your analogy of a web site, a rank amateur would probably not be able to build a web 2.0 site, but could certainly build something that would suck up a lot of CPU and disk throughput on the server, just through dumb luck.

There is a slight difference between defending yourself or making the other guy defend himself. Even an attorney that is defending himself will bring in an attorney for defense. As I brought an action against an attorney, he did bring in defense. He had violated the rules and was subject to sanctions. I took it to the court. He lost the argument against sanctions.

To allow oil companies to pursue profit without any real liability. Any Republican knows that!
