"I know I'm being had, but the whole thing is a lot of fun, and the people orchestrating this at Microsoft seem to be having fun with it too."Thats exactly what I was thinking, I was watching the video getting so into it thinking "damn, I need one of these look how sweet that thing is" then like a bolt of lightning I realize... they got me.They are doing a great job getting peoples attention on this device, I'm still considering getting one. Thanks Andru!

Guys, to be honest, while that would be BRILLIANT of them, I think you are giving them just a tad too much credit. Major corporations like this would rather be in complete control, at every step, of a product launch. ;)

True i agree with Andru! Not sure if they have room in their marketing for clever tricks like that. All i know is that they should respect Gearlive for doing uch a great job allowing it to seem so freaking secret. Like this guy is in trouble or something, and they should give him a promotion for looking like he was some guy who stole one from the lab. Although if it WAS a marketing ploy, he is a great spokes person, and represented exactly how a customer would view and handle the new device. Like a show off piece, tha he knows is expensive and awesome (not that expensive I guess) but not sure why.

I'm sure they are in complete control, just doing it in a modern fashionable way. The guy that you talked to was a young "cool" guy, they are doing that to appeal to their target audience which is the younger crowd, high school kids, college kids, etc. As apposed to having some older boring guy release information on it at some type of event (maybe similar to apples') its done at a secret party that few people know about (giving it more excitement when someone like you captures it and posts it) and with fashionable people walking around with the zunes, having them appear as this hip new thing. That's just how I see it, I've taken a few classes involving advertising and they have very sneaky ways of making you think you need something.

I don't think that was an accident.

The price of $229 may be all it needs - although, if Microsoft was really serious, they would go the Xbox 360 route on this thing and sell it at a loss, even if just for a few months. Price it at $175 or even $150, and watch how quickly the market takes to the Zune ;)
