oversight.house.gov — New documents suggest that Blackwater may have engaged in significant tax evasion, failing to withhold and pay millions of dollars in Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, and related taxes, and sought to conceal its conduct from Congress and law enforcement officials.

Why are we still using Mercenaries aKa Soldier of Fortune? Are we still in 1900 now?If you want to serve your f**king country, join the army. I cant believe that the government is actually paying them, offer wide range of protection, helping with tax evasion. Example of war benefiters who have ties with someone in the government.

Exactly! This is just another example of the IRS trying to suck the blood out of another American company to pay for the bloated spend-crazy government. It should be no surprise to anyone when American companies move their operations over seas. Eventually the US will be filled with nothing but fast food restaurants and crying whining bleeding heart liberals wearing burkas and praising Allah.

Actually, an employer cannot just make the decision to pay their employees on a 1099, or every employer would save themselves their portion of the employees SS and Medi taxes. If these were legitimate employees Blackwater should have paid them as such, with tax withholdings and all. Just deciding that they are contact employees is not enough. They actually have to qualify. Some of the requirements are the contract employee supplies all of his own gear, is not told when to work, and they cannot be provided any sort of benefits such as health care. There are many other stipulations. So, yes, the IRS would and should go after them for tax evasion. Paying employees on a 1099 rarely benefit the employee, just the employer.
