politifact.com — Do today’s tax collections, minus the income tax, really equal the tax collections of 10 years ago? We dug into IRS statistics ourselves and ITS TRUE!! IRS collected $880-billion in individual income tax in 2005. Subtract that from total taxes and you get $1.12-trillion. By comparison, total tax collections in 1995 were about $1.27-trillion.

Are you kidding me? The near poor definitely pay income tax, trust me...i've been near poor for most of my life, and why the quotes around near poor? It's a real term, meaning anyone above the poverty level who still cannot afford basic necessities.

The government doesn't "borrow" money. They don't go to the bank and apply for a loan. The government issues bonds which they promise to pay back with interest. Those bonds are bought by anyone who has the money. The majority of them are held by U.S. citizens. So, when we talk about the National Debt we are talking about the outstanding government bonds that we are paying interest on.^^Incidentally, the government doesn't HAVE to pay the interest. They can call the bonds due at anytime and cash the bond holders out for the current value.>.>In fact, they (meaning we, the people of the United States of America) COULD invalidate the bonds and just stop paying them back entirely.

Okay, I think I get it then...I meant: "There are nevertheless significant number of people who (rightly) do not pay income tax and/or have it largely refunded via the EITC, and they would generally be called poor due to low incomes."Whereas you meant: "There are people with larger incomes who do pay income tax, but their expense situations are such that their quality of living still suffers and would be considered "poor" from their circumstances."

Which is why the wealthy, and why MOST people who actually pay taxes at all... Lie, Hide Income, "cheat" (and by cheat, I mean "legitimately protect the money they worked hard for, from theft by a marauding group of thugs"), or simply never even file at all... Don't YOU know anything about taxpayers?

Social Security needs to pay me 450,000 over 20 years when I retire, to meet what I could earn with my social security deductions assuming I get a paltry 5%.It's by far the worst "gouging" I'm a victim of.

Fact: On Sept 10th 2001 The Pentagon reported that it LOST 2.3 trillion dollars. Have they found it? No. Are they looking? No. No accountability at all. So if our administration thinks that losing 2.3 trillion is like dropping a penny onto the street, then they don't need our piddly 1 trillion in income tax.

Its refreshing to see such a healthy debate here. Usually what you see is name calling and foul language. We should vote for the candidate who best represents our beliefs-not the candidate that the media supports. Why let them take this choice from you? Be informed. In America we get to choose our leaders. This is what makes America great. Whomever you vote for, make sure the candidate you choose is the one who supports your beliefs.

We’ve all participated in more than a few heated debates about who should pay more taxes and who should pay less. The only agreement I’ve ever heard regarding taxes is that someone else should pay them. With all of the rhetoric and emotions surrounding taxes, I decided to find out who really pays the most taxes. Here’s what I found out:The Top 1% of income earners pay 34 % of all taxesThe top 10% of income earners pay 66 % of all taxesThe bottom 50% of income earners pay 3 % of all taxesVisit www.moneymanagerslive.com to read more...

that's correct. but i dont think anybody should be forced to pay a personal income tax just to support policies that they are morally opposed to. the income tax is coercive and immoral. its licensed robbery by the government.
