It got killed of because of the ungodly unsprung weight of the "motor wheel".It's one thing to demo energy efficient electric motors on a test platform......and quite another thing to mass produce the design and have it run reliably and safely for 100,000 miles.

Also, AWD only puts all power to the ground if you don't have enough. Enough power means too much to handle.
