And this is why I have trouble digesting the climate change issue. The Sun plays such a major part that I reckon we need to understand more about it before making doom laden predictions about the future of life on our planet.

Any such article concerning the far future history of the solar system carries a hidden implication that one might tend to overlook... it is the notion that intelligent life will have no effect on what we understand to be the natural course of events over the course of the next five billion years. Perhaps I read too much SF, but I feel as if our existence is sure to alter the outcome of any such scenario...
