torrentfreak.com — The European Parliament has cast its final vote in favor of an amendment that will prevent member states from implementing three-strikes laws. Disconnecting alleged file-sharers based on evidence from anti-piracy lobby groups restricts the rights and freedoms of Internet users, according to the amendment.

Well this was absurd from the very beginning. At the moment my laptop can see 3 open WIFI connections and 5 closed ones (which could easily be hacked). I could also use my phone to go online. Not to mention renew my cable-service with another person who lives with me.Also all the cafe-s, hotels, most of public places like all the parks, trains and some buses etc have free WIFI here. I could go online anywhere and continue downloading, who would they cut off if I used some random persons home wifi? From the internet I'm supposed to pay my taxes, bills etc. Our government supports internet so much that we can actually even vote from the internet. How can they cut it off if it seen so essential even in the eyes of the government themselves?

It just wouldn't be right if EU rejects Three-Strikes Legislation, For Evil... or even For Awesome.

While I like this particular piece of legislation, I would rather, as a Swedish citizen, have seen it rejected all together. The problem isn't the law itself, but rather the idea that the EU keep claiming authority over areas that have nothing to do with why the majority of EU citizens wanted to join the union in the first place. Remember, this is just an amendment to a larger bill that more or less controls all electronic communication; an area which would be much more suited to be governed at a state level. I don't want to see the day when the bill looks completely different, but the EU still has control over these parts of our legislation.
