eff.org — The entire family of devices built on the iPhone OS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) have been designed to run only software that is approved by Apple..Software developers who want Apple's approval must first agree to the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement.

Considering he saved Apple from bankruptcy back in the late 90s, and made them seven metric asstons of money, I don't think his spot is in danger anytime soon.

@candorny: Its about as much of a computer as an Xbox 360. Which is to say, it is NOT a general purpose computer. It is designed to be a media player. It is not designed to be everything that your desktop or laptop is. Look at the other slate tablets from the turn of the century to see how badly that idea flopped. @dauntless1: You might be right on that, although I'd hope that the iPad would be a little more rigid. Still, it should be possible to add some reinforcement to those sleeves, and make them hard cases with a soft covering. Also, I'm pretty sure I saw some kind of tablet case that made it look like a book.

@MascotsApple doesn't modify apps, they do however modify the operating system the apps run on, which can break things believe it or not.@s73v3rBy giving you a list of things to fix in order to be approved and allowing you to resubmit?...

@danielphermousThe specific act cited in the court case was the bundling of a web browser (specifically Internet Explorer) with all copies of Windows was an attempt at monopoly by Microsoft. Microsoft lost the case, setting the precedence that bundling your own browser with your OS was a crime.Apple does this, not only with their OS, but with any web capable device they sell. Were you referring to something else? If you are, I'd be happy to look into it. However, it doesn't take more than one example for me to understand that corrupt is corrupt. Just because Microsoft kills orphans doesn't excuse Apple from raping nuns.

@s73v3rBecause you're not limited as to what hardware you can run that copy of Windows on.Microsoft doesn't give a s**t WHAT kind of machine you cobble together to run the software, or who you bought it from.

Sure, go ahead and run it as a VM on your Mac if you want. Microsoft doesn't REQUIRE you to buy Microsoft hardware to develop the software. That's the big difference.
