Internet Explorer is like that bastard child that can't be rehabilitated, and Microsoft is going to be paying alimony for it for the rest of its life to save face.Sad part is that MS changed the face of the Internet so much so, that banking sites force us to use this menace we call IE.

The day IE becomes an *entirely* removable program instead of a "Windows component" will be a grand day, indeed.

Remember, hell froze over the day Apple switched to Intel hardware. So you can expect anything now, even Dvorak being right.

wow did i read the same article that everyone else did? he said from a business stand point that MS should dump IE because of all the trouble browsers bring and let FF and Opera deal with it.

Im not sure if he is right. Websites still seem to base their code on IE in particular. I find that sometimes I have to go back to IE. If you don't have windows, i presume you can't use IE. they can also try to manipulate the way the web goes in favour of their company (Active x being an attempt. Premium security is now coming in. Originally they wanted nothing to do with anti-virus etc, now they plan to make it pay-per-use (apart from patches)). It gives them a constant presence on the net.I am moving bookmarks over to the net. i will use storage as well. I use webmail. the way linux is going, we may have no use for Windows soon.Who can forget how Bill was predicting the future about the internet highway whilst not having a browser of his own ? I think the error was not constantly innovating the IE.

How do you think we got browsers before the 1996 release of windows95 OSR1 ?Every ISP I've ever signed up with have provided some kind of installation disk.

@JonGretarSorry I'm a little late replying, but hopefully you're still following this thread."Because it's good for developers. For Apple it would make no sense for them to write a new rendering engine for the Dashboard widgets or a new library to format emails. You already have it. So fixing a bug in one fixes the other ..."This is his main argument for _removing_ the browser from the OS. His point is that a critical bug in the browser will have (and indeed does have) catastrophic consequences in the OS since Windows is tied to IE.

Dvorak was a old OS/2 diehard... much like myself.... and he does make sense most of the time. The idea of IE integration with the OS always was a bad idea in my mind too. It risking hanging the entire OS on a application with whatever flaws it may contain and as we seen IE is far far less than perfect. I have only used IE a few times over the many years... Since IE first appeared I was a Netscape fan, then Mozilla and now Firefox... yes there been stumbling blocks but I much preferred not having the browser integrated. Microsoft was indeed smart to do it thou... from a purely business sense... I know many people who say why bother if they can use IE for browsing when they buy a PC.... explaining why other browsers are better fail because they do not appreciate the key benifits and in a lot of their minds.... Microsoft is an infailable god. They generally act like Microsoft invented computing.Ok maybe that means I am a tech-head. But so what, I much perfer to have a better product than be forced to live with poor software.
