Dump? Brazil dominated the whole game, played clean football. The dutch played dirty and resorted to cheats to win, like they always do. Elbowing players all the time, they should have had at least 2 red cards, and several penalties for Brasil. f**kin stupid referee.
The Dutch team is a disgrace to football.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
njndirishJul 2, 2010
Since when is clean stomping on someone?
waspbrJul 2, 2010
Felipe melo was an idiot, he scored an own goal and later lost his head. Holand just won because brazil made too many mistakes at the second half, actually brazil was very much s**t in the second half, though so were the dutch, there were three players alone with the goalie and they could not score.
on top of that, there was a penalty on kaka on the first half and the first goal was not off side.
The Dutch are very much known for playing dirty, just check the game against portugal in 2006, they did play dirty.
But f**k it, game is over and it is not time to bitch anymoreComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
njndirishJul 2, 2010
Both teams had 20 fouls a piece, how is just one dirty?
thewhitsJul 2, 2010
So you're going to ignore that both teams flopped and whined equally, not to mention the red card Brazil got for stomping on the other player's leg...
Holland was the better team today, deal with it.
thetallestJul 2, 2010
Mate, the Brazilians should have lost Bastos to a second yellow and Van Bommel probably should have got a yellow in the last ten minutes. Other than that the ref did a reasonable job.
waspbrJul 2, 2010
really, how about the first goal that was called offside and the penalty on kaka? the referee failed big time. Though brazil lost its cool on the second halfComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
rizzen93Jul 2, 2010
The replay of that first goal on CBC showed that it was offside, but just barely. It was the right call to make.
Grats to the Dutch though, Brazil played great during the first half, but they came out and owned during the second one.

Nice one Melo! An own goal and a red card?! I drew Brazil in my office sweepstake so that fool owes me £10!
On a more serious note though, this means either Holland, Ghana, or Uruguay plays in the final. Wouldn't have picked any of them at the start of the tournament.

Holland has always been a contender, but someone has always beaten them in the middle rounds. Maybe this time they'll reach the finals, and who knows, win?

countess666Jul 2, 2010
true. and it was very badly defended by the Dutch team...
in a way thou it was what set Brazil on the road to being ousted. the Dutch team needed a good kick in the backside, needed to be shocked awake having almost fallen asleep playing game after game against reasonable not not great teams.
they needed to be made aware that, unlike with previous teams, you can't drop your guard against a team like Brazil for even a second
because it came just 10 minutes into the match the Dutch, now awake, had the time to turn things around.

The red card on the action against Robben was deserved. But I think it should be more than red. We are talking about someone who stands on two feet, then lifts one, to kick a man lying on the ground right in the hamstring that just recovered from a serious injury.
You can't punish a crime with game rules.
soundslikeadareJul 3, 2010

huukiwiJul 3, 2010

moussifJul 2, 2010
Thanks to a blind referee, luck, and the Maestro of diving Sr. Robben. Netherlands played dirty and resorted to gross cheats from the beginning of the game. Many faults commited with no repercussions, Kaka was bulied several times in the box, there should have been at least one penalty, for all the faults, pushes and jersey pulling in the box.
The ref turned a blind eye on all the atrocities commited by the Dutch cheaters.

It's not about the size of the population. It's about the footballing culture and ambition of the population. It means nothing if you have a larger population pool to draw from if the people are naturally not-inclined to pursue football greatness.

I drew out a bracket a few months before the cup and kept looking at this match-up as the one that would see Brazil taken out. This Dutch team can win the whole thing if they can keep their wits about them. Their history will be meaningless if they manage to keep building momentum.
lestrategeJul 3, 2010
To do so, they'd have to start shooting a bit more. I mean Brazil should have been 3 ahead by the end of the first half.
Both team were disappointingly average. Brazil only looked good at first because of Holland's mistakes and non existent attack, and then after the equalizer, Brazil acted shocked like something inconceivable had happened and they needed to reflect on it.
Whoever wins Germany-Argentina will win it all.

Sorry but The Netherlands didn't deserve this. They got 2 goals from passive phases including one own goal. They got huge chances but they blew them all. I've lived in NY, CALI, and MI after that and I can't tell you how many times I struggled to purchase something because of my lack of spanish affluence while living in Miami. And that isn't because of Argentines or Brazilians. That's because of Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, and Dominican Republic overruning the place. Thai is what I have been saying all along: the Dutch were a team to look at. Even though they didn't do so well in the first half, they came together as a team in the second. This along with the unevenness of how how Brasil has been playing in this WorldCup is what made today's game possible.
Nobody believed me a few weeks ago when I said that Brazil was NOT going to the finals. Everyone was taking the easy way out and saying "Brasil, Brasil" like a knee-jerk reaction. Had anyone SEEN the way they were playing lately? It seems like between the TV announcers saying how Brasil was going to the finals and how dumb it was for Maradona to thin down his Argentine fullbacks to almost nil, how wrong everyone has been. Very wrong. Well, here we are with Argentina having not lost a single game yet in this World Cup and going to the semi-fianls and Brasil having a draw early on with Portugal and now losing.
There is going to be a lot of crow being eaten tonight . . .
stevemaxJul 2, 2010
Well, Argentina has to win over Germany tomorrow before heading to the semifinals. But yeah, this year's Brazilian team wasn't designed with brilliance in mind; it was designed for efficiency. The main problem is that you can't rely on Felipe Melo, and (more generally) with the emotional stability of a Brazilian national team. The lack of stability showed up since the second half started, and there is no need to comment on Felipe Melo's game.
fubemanJul 3, 2010
Yeah, what I was getting at was how wrong a lot of these announcers were in all in their predictions, not necessarily who is going to win. Loving all of these upsets. Makes people actually watch these games instead of stating the same 'ol same 'ol.

The first half. Excellent passing by Brazil. They seemingly walked all over Nederland. Brazillian players appeared to take cheap shots here and there. I wasn't pleased. I did like Ref waved off all those Hollywood injuries, penalties. He was making a statement, play on and play fair without giving out a half a dozen yellow cards.
The second half. Got to give it to them. Things changed. It could happen and it did. Congrats to both teams for giving us a great show.
