blog.scifi.com — From the "are you f'ing kidding me?!" department comes the mouse jiggler, perhaps the dumbest and most useless computer peripheral I have ever seen. What is it, you ask? Well, it's a $30 USB dongle that nudges your mouse around so the screen saver doesn't come on.

Uh, that is a picture of the device. It just spoofs as a USB mouse. It doesn't phyiscally move the mouse. But whatever.

Is everyone in your IT department as dumb as you? If the servers are set to time you out after inactivity it's usually for a good reason. I guess security doesn't matter to you. Which is ironic, since you're working in IT. I hope you get fired for being a dumbass.

This can be so easily done by using a script. A little programming with Auto-Hotkey, and I can do it for free.. all on software, without buying some stupid ugly piece of equipment.

You guys are a bunch of fools, who don't grasp situations outside of your own. There are MANY, as in millions, of people whose jobs are on computers where they have neither install access to add a software mouse jiggler, nor the power to change settings and disable the damned screen locker...or they simply don't want to risk doing those two things. Many of those people have machines that are set up to lock the screen after N minutes of idle. This USB device lets you over-ride the damned screen locker, even if you have zero install/settings permissions, because it's perceived by the system as an extra USB mouse. But it just sends fake mouse jiggles. This is perfect for people whose network settings keep locking the screen when they're idle for a few minutes. What's more, it can save the jobs of people who, I kid you not, actually GET IN TROUBLE if their machine is idle long enough to lock, during work hours. Some companies actually have a script that sends a notice to an administrator, if your machine goes idle, and then YOU get an email demanding that you account for your time. This is also perfect for people on library machines, which will literally kill and delete all activity if the idle screen comes up, even if you were in the middle of a lengthy (temporary) download. And then there are people who NEED the screen locking on, and can't risk turning it off temporarily, lest they forget to turn it back on...they can stick this in, and pull it out when they're finished, no worry about having to remember to fiddle with settings.Proles sitting around at home, playing with themselves on their own PCs, should at least grasp that the real world involves other situations, where this could be useful.
