npr.org — Six months ago Dubai Ports World promised to sell its North American operations to appease critics in Congress. Those critics did not want foreigners running U.S. ports and demanded that Dubai Ports find a buyer for its U.S. facilities. Six months later, the company still owns those ports.

Who cares, lots of ports are controlled by foreign entities. The only reason this became an issue is because the democrats were desperate to find something with which they could appear stronger on national security than the republicans.

Being an ally doesn't really mean much. Iraq was our ally in my lifetime.

Actually Dubai doesn't get the majority of their cashflow from oil. From wikipedia:Oil reserves in Dubai are less than one-twentieth that of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and oil income is now only a small proportion of the emirate's income.Tourism is one of their biggest cash cows.

So the democrats didnt do this for the good of the country, but to try and "get back" at bush? Well, in that case, carry on!

Most people are completely ignorant of the fact that it takes time to make complicated business transactions like this. It's not like they can just up and sell it tomorrow, and it's a done deal. When you are dealing with multi-billion dollar transactions with foreign involvement, there are many complicated legalities and procedures to conduct.

Err, the UAE has one of the smallest reserves of Oil in the Middle East. I grew up there for a few years and it's the free trade zone that they have adopted which makes their economy so strong and Dubai such a great place to live and work.

a digg thread where most people actually make sense instead of rambling off a bunch of politics? am I at the right digg?

So what? Some processes (like finding a buyer for a ports contract perhaps) take longer than a week.

Good, I hope DPW keeps control, its not right that DPW got singled out just because its an Arab company. They run many other ports in many countries and haven’t done anything that I know of to question their credibility. If they want to change the rules of selling of our infrastructure (that may pose a security risk) then terminate our contracts with ALL foreign companies otherwise you are being raciest in my opinion.
