If I had to sum it up (slightly guessing here)....Use your driver's license as a potentiometer. Use a potentiometer to control the output of a voltage divider. Send an analog voltage to an ADC. Use an ADC to measure an analog voltage digitally. Connect an ADC to a PIC or other micro. Use a PIC/micro to send bytes over a serial/parallel link. Write or acquire software to read bytes from the serial/parallel port and perform a function based on analog voltage.

or you could try this thing called a mouse.. ok.. dugg anyway just cause I'm curious whether or not the voltage wipes the mag stripe.
