unionleader.com — The only way for Real ID (Which is basically a National ID card) to not gain a foot-hold in this country is for New Hampshire to not join the pilot program. The only way for that to happen is if the members of the Executive Council in NH refuse to spend the money the Fed's trying to bribe them with.

Lately it seems it all comes back down to this:I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it. (Thomas Jefferson)

Hey we love to take the motto to heart out here, "Live Free or Die"... Leave it to good ol NH to be standing up for something :) And from looking at how we like to be the only state to do things a certain way, ie only state that doesnt require seatbelts (over 18 yrs old) and no sales and income tax, I could see them standing up easily...

I also have not heard a good argument on how a national ID would hurt. Do you think your Credit Card, Bank info...etc are any bit more secure or private?I rather have a national ID or national "Drivers License". It would make things much more convenient.State Gov is great but there are functions that should be national or "federal".It always amazes me how there are people in the UNITED states of America that feel their "State" is a totally separate entity.... I think this is the best place in the world, but this internal BS is annoying.Look at our Education System... It should not matter where you live, if K-12 is a public service it should be funded equally (federal funding). Not by state / town /county...etcBut of course State Constitution makes this very difficult, watch what happens in Louisiana. With all the tragedy, something good is starting there and im a certain this "experiment" will work... public ed is going to be funded equally (They actually changed the state constitution to allow this).Sorry about the Rant..

Someone said:>>"What the heck is wrong with a national ID card?">>I dunno. It seemed to work fairly well with the Germans in 1936.Ad hominem attack of Guilt by association/ poisoning the well (so to speak):The Third Reich also had and used Jets, Cars, Rockets, public transportation and hospitals. Does that mean we [anyone who uses these items] are bad to have/use them too ?That argument falls under that principal alone!(anyways -- you know the net rules --- ad hominems that refer to Hitler directly or indirectly .........)We do have a form of National ID -- we just don't have an official National Card. Can you think of what it is ?? How many times and places have you been asked for your Social Security ID # ? And you have given it ? Maybe at your doctor or hospital? Or when you got your driver license? Or when you got your Library Card ?Or when you registered for College (several of my colleges used it as our ID #)Or when you got your handgun permit (they ask for it in CT) ?Or when you applied for a credit card?Or when you opened a bank account ?(I personally ask anyone who asked for my SSN# -- are you paying into my Social Security account ? NO ? Then you don't really need it ...) Anyways, I think you see my point. This is quickly becoming our National ID -- and there is a lot of information tied to it if you know where to look. It just a matter of time before it coalesces into an ID card.Anyways -- there is a better way of tracking a lot more information about a person --Its having a cashless society -- credit-cards & ATM cards. Then everything transaction can be followed -- what you buy, where you buy it, when you bought it......

About five years ago Hollywood Video asked for my SSN as part of getting a card to rent videos. What a freaking joke! Anyway, I just have to put a plug in for the bible. Revelation, written 2000 years ago, states that no man will be able to buy, sell, or trade without "the mark". I won't try to evangelize on this site but clearly we are in the end times.

I'm very much for social programs, for citizens and those people that are here legitimately. How did you get that I hate immigrants and social programs? Do you want people you don't know to come into your house, eat your food, and just basically hang out for extended periods of time without contributing anything but using up everything? Sure, they might do something around the house once in a while when it suits their needs but you wouldn't stand for it. However, if a friend needed a place to crash for a couple weeks, asked you if they could sleep on your couch, offered to do stuff around the house, take the kids to school once in a while, etc then yeah, that's fine. If you did that with a lot of people I'm sure you would want a way to know who is there in a way that didn't separate people by which room they slept in. That's my point.

In a truly free society ID would be a market function and voluntary to boot. You could choose to reveal as much or as little information about yourself as you desired. In a truly free society you wouldn't need a driver's license in the first place. In a truly free society banks wouldn't need ID from depositors because the accounts could be anonymous. Government issued ID is all about controlling people. Can you be free and under micro-managing control of the central authorities. I don't think so!
