Although I prefer Fedora I have recommended Ubuntu to a few Windows people that have asked me about Linux. You can't install Fedora with a single CD and there isn't an official live CD like Ubuntu. But I always feel obligated to warn them about the hideous brown/orange default theme. I think Xubuntu and Kubuntu are much easier on the eyes.
uhm some african countries are named after a different color? Like cape verde for instance which literally translates to "the green cape" :). the lion king is a disney film made for kids which is very nice, but if you really wanna know how it looks like, go there yourself and you'll find a whole lot of colors other than brown ;)

Sorry for stating the obvious: Judging a Linux distribution on a grub menu screen or X login manager is basically the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
