farm1.static.flickr.com — 110 diggs, 84 diggs, 82 diggs...that sounds like stories that are on the front page. Wrong! Does it take more Diggs now to make the Front Page, or are these stories being buried as much as they are being dugg?

Here's the final tale of the tape, before the Digg algo (removing the post from the Upcoming Stories queue after 24 hours) caused these posts to expire.http://farm1.static.flickr.com/137/369361173_4119bc4e86_o.jpgThankfully, the post on the 93-year old blogger's lament hit the homepage.

here's the problem...the digg community will complain to hell and high water that sites like thinkprogress, lewrockwell, etc. have an army of users who ALWAYS digg those stories and get it to the homepage.but guess what, the same thing is happening to mrbabyman and whomever else. the SAME sets of users are digging his stories. i remember a blog post a while ago that digg looks for diversity in digging for their algorithm. so from my perspective, the top submitters aren't being penalized directly b/c it's the diggers, who are independent of the submitter, that are causing the stories to not get promoted as fast. and sure, indirectly, that affects the submitter. but that's an unfortunate consequence of users with "mob mentality" and just digg anything. i SERIOUSLY doubt that a user who diggs 90% of a users submissions is really making a quality judgement on whether they should digg, report, or do nothing. it's a blind digg and that's what this algorithm is at least trying to sort out. this is a social website with unique problems and issues...don't like it, go away. NOTHING is perfect, stop bitching, and if you're angry, walk away for 10 minutes. digg is a FREE website, they're not taking anything away from you. you are not entitled to anything and you should not expect it either.

Sorry, but befriending only allows more people to see your story, the vast majority doesn't auto-digg. As some one in the Top 100 I will tell you that about 3-10 friends digg each of my stories, and its not the same people, just the ones who saw it and thought it was cool.
