zug.com— Great story on how a guy started drawing pictures on his credit card receipts and hey - no one even blinked an eye...

Funny thing is... people put "check ID" on the back of their credit cards... then get super pissed when you ask to see their ID.And I'm all for the signing your receipts however you want. who cares. ;)
On a somewhat related note, everytime I have a pizza delivered to my home, I make the check out to Pizza The Hutt. It's never been turned down, and it's always passed through the bank just fine. I've been doing this for years.
I almost never use real signature myself..... Last year I bought a $600 TV from Circuit City and purposely signed a friend/co-workers name instead of my own just to see if it the sales clerk would catch it. I saw it come up on the computer monitor and he asked to see my drivers license (back of card wasn't signed), he even put it up to the monitor to compare signatures. Even though my drivers license signature is quite legible, the sales clerk went ahead with the purchase. I decided I was too tired to start anything, but it's pretty scary stuff. Guess they don't take signatures seriously unless it's a *big* purchase :|
I do this myself a lot. It's true. If you ask me, I think it's a waste of time to get our signature. What does that mean anyways? If you think about it, it takes 5 sec on average to sign. Let's say that we use the card 5 times a week. That is 25 seconds a week. That's 1300 a year. That's 97500 in a lifetime.
NO THEY DON'T. I've been signing "Mickey Mouse" or other random crap at the cash register (usually Walmart where I grocery shop) for years just for s**ts and giggles. I'll even tell whoever's with me, watch, I'm going to sign my name Mickey Mouse and their eyes bug out. The cashier doesn't care, you don't care, scribble what you want. Its rather irrelevant. You could probably put an X there for all anybody cares, just like illiterate cowpokes use to do on Gunsmoke.
Guitar center absolutely will not process your atm or credit card without seeing your ID. I've argued with them because my picture is on my visa, still they must see my ID. According to the official 2006 visa guide they are not allowed to do that. What can I do?
Visa and MasterCard policies actually do allow that, as long as the person checks ID to be sure the right person actually is signing the card. My question though is how the heck the cashier is supposed to know the ID is real, given the myriad of IDs out there?

Simple. Call for a Code 10 Authorization.

Is the back of the card signed? If not, they have to see a government issued ID, per Visa policy. The picture on the front of the card isn't ID.
