Actually, its a good question. Muisc/Software/etc Pirate used to mean people who would make bootleg or duplicate copies of a copyright work for resale/profit. Back in the day, the last thing in the minds of most what the content guys now call "pirates" was copyright law. Most people didn't even really get what computers were, and of those who did, most really didn't get software anyway. Copying a program onto another disk would hardly seem like it would involve copyright law to the mainstream. The content pigs extended the term to apply to casual copying of purchased works, so make the especially at the time rather perceived harmless activity sound as sinister as the before mentioned crime. Combine it with massive propaganda in schools and a fairly active extortion campaign to try to bribe employees to rat out workplaces, and you have a fitting beginning to the madness fully realized today. And all over what, Linux at least serves as evidence that computer software will at least be around without paying for software(many horror stories predicted computers basically disappearing from the face of the earth without a steady stream of dollars), and who the hell really believes that artists would disappear if the recording industry does. This is a sad chapter in creative history.
The record companies could open up their vaults to DRM free downloads of ALL their songs for 14.99 a month and all you freeloaders would STILL not buy into it and will go to the pirate bay instead.
Yea, ok, you steal music, video games etc., but I honestly WOUDN'T do it if prices were anything near normal. Seriously, everybody would much rather own an original
All the people who buy music.. you're the ones responsible when the RIAA randomly sues innocent people because you're doing so with your money. I don't want any of my hard earned money being used to threaten people.

Just hit "Print This Story" then you can scroll down instead of clicking 5 times. It also gets rid of most of the ads.
