blogs.guardian.co.uk— It seems pretty clear to a lot of people that Google is now well on the way to owning the Web, and small competitors such as Kiko are starting to quit.

First let me say that I think Google is currently walking a very fine line between FRIENDLY COMPANY and EVIL EMPIRE. While I admire there relentless attempts to stay GOOD I don't think it will last. When Google first started, I loved there Search Engine because it was CLEAN, UNCLUTTERED (a logo, search box, search button and unobtrusive footer), fast and accurate. Since then they have grown and expanded at an astonishing pace. However, when they went Public they opened themselves to the evilness that is INVESTOR GREED and it is only a matter of time until the SUCCUMB to the RELENTLESS PRESSURES OF THE INVESTORS.
sometimes they are more innovative, sometimes they are less.Google Maps, Gmail and of course Google Search are examples for very innovative products, that are simply better than other available products.Google Hosting is not, but hey, that's not the point with it. The point of Google Hosting is that they provide hosting for free, to give back to the community. There are other products that are not innovative. There is calendar which is not very innovative. But it has Gmail integration, therefore it's more useful than other services. We can't blame Google for creating products that are *not* innovative. They create products that are useful, and sometimes Gmail-integration is enough to make it more useful than other products. This never ever closes the market for other competitors, as there are plenty of niches available. And, there are always completely new ideas which can be made, which don't exist yet. Look at Digg! (this is for competitors now, not for Google - they will never create a Digg clone, because it's too little mainstream)
Welcome to the internet. Learn that you can't make a real business here and shut up. We didn't invent the internet so you could make money, we made it so you could talk to people. Learn to deal with it.And blogs suck. This is crap.
This article proves only this. stand alone calendar is bad app. That's all. When there was no competition stand alone apps fared well. When people got an integrated application users went that way. It does not have much weight on the fact the new one was from Google. Kiko was a neat application. But you didn't really think people want to go to a place just for calendar. hey, we the users are lazy. We want it all in one place, for free and no ads please

Now if only everybody searched for "Google is evil" at the same time to hit the most popular search :)
