I don't think so. A couple years ago, the 8800GTX was coming out at $600+, but you could get a 2.4 Core 2 Duo for $200.

I think they fixed this recently.

got my self a cheap priced msi 9600gt 512mb ram 256 bit bus and it runs excellent with my core2duo 2.4ghz 4mb cache. pentium 4 3.4ghz was the bottleneck. it's a good thing that the 4 year old asus p5ld2 rev 2.0 motherboard with a update bios supported the new core2duo.

You need at least 3kw to run that system properly fredinator, make sure you have an authorised electrician install it to your switch board on its own circuit with separate fuses too.

good article. i recently had to buy a new video card, and i was surprised and disapointed in how both ati and nvidia name their cards. It's impossible to tell what performance you're getting by looking at the model number alone. the price tag gives a better idea, but still big differences between brands and manufactureres. imo there doesn't need to be so many variations in performance either.

Okay, so the only mistake I made was the fifth one since i have a 19 inch screen. But I don't see how that is relevant since I am like to go with an LCD when I go to a 24 inch and I'll actually lose some lines vertically, making for less pixels and thus less power necessary. Also, it completely ignores the fact that I use CUDA. What should I have done instead of a GTX280?

If money was nothing to consider, I'll buy a Mustang and trash it for having such a cheap parts inside, and get myself a Nissan GTR!

HardOCP.com is all about "real world" benches. If you want a thorough analysis of how a card will feel then check this site out. Here is some info on their methodology...<a class="user" href="http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ2MSwsLGhlbnRodXNpYXN0">http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ2MSwsLG ...</a>

Ummmm neither...<a class="user" href="http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3338&amp;p=6">http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3338 ...</a>4850 is the faster card and gets 38FPS at 1280x1024 High settings. You said Max and for Crysis that would be Very high in which case the 4850 drops below 30fps and keep in mind that is an average. There will be scenes where they are in the 20's which sucks.
