Right now, Ubuntu has way better drivers out-of-the-box than Windows. When I reinstalled Windows from scratch, I had to download the necessary drivers, as they didn't come with it. With Ubuntu, most things worked right away. However, Windows has more available drivers than Linux.

This is GREAT and definitely the right direction to take. Maybe in 12-18 Months there will be a really elaborate and fail-safe installation for windows users that addresses all issues in a User-friendly and Fail-safe way. The area of Partitioning, File-systems, Boot-management are very challenging and even experienced users can end up with a hosed system. Another important area that could use some help is an Automatic Windows Installation that includes a VMWare package such as XEN.

I'd love to give Linux a try having repeated problems with windows but my rather limited tech experience and fear of completely ruining my computer has stopped me.I'd also be worried that some things wouldn't work properly having not used it before. Just being able to install a .exe file to try out Linux would be great.
