blackfriarsinc.com— "The bottom line: anyone who claims iPod sales are collapsing can't do basic math. The rate of song purchases is going to change month-to-month"

the other 2 posts are right. with a sample size of 2000, presuming that the sampling was random and without any bias theres a 95% chance the results are within 2.2% of the actual numbers.edit-beaten to it :(
I imagine the market will fluctuate. More music is bought around or just after the holidays wth new ipods/devices. It also picks up in summer when you have time off (kids). Many industries have cycles. If it steadily went down for 2-3 years then you have a downturn, this is just a notch in the gear.
Of course it's fixed, but then you have billions of "Made for iPod" accessories, and you have people who can't resist upgrading the iPod every 12 months. We are talking about 99 cents per song. After deducting cost, it's like filling up apple's petty cash jar.
People are slowly beginning to recognize that DRM stinks. They are also slowly beginning to realize that when they purchase directly from the independent artist that not only do they not have to concern themselves with DRM, but the money actually goes to the artist.
@flag564:Are you THAT much of a conspiracy theorist that you believe the sputum that comes out of your mouth? If there were some sort of cover up, non-pro Apple stories wouldn't be appearing in the news, as you seem to think the media is almost all Apple-happy kool-aid drinkers. Maybe, just maybe, there are "reporters" out there who don't check their facts or do proper research. Occam's razor, flag; the easiest answer is usually the correct one. It's much easier to believe that someone didn't do research, than it is to believe that millions of Digg users have group-think and bury any anti-Apple story. Somehow, that 5% of the market can overpower the other 95% through sheer willpower. Though, I'm willing to bet you believe that only Mac users game Digg and run all the media outlets, too. That's right, all mac users are raving zealots with no life, no jobs, no ability to do anything but drink the kool-aid and spout "Apple is great" at every given opportunity. Get a grip on reality. There's no pledge of allegiance to Apple; there's no contract signed at the purchase of every iPod and Mac. Yes, you don't like Apple, the Mac, or the iPod. We GET IT. GET OVER IT. Your personal insults, inaccurate comments, contradictory stances and downright lies are doing nothing, except giving you the inflated sense of importance and superiority you seem to feel you need.
boomett? Your own analysis of what you percieve to be an accurate definition of statistical analysis is ad hominem at best. You simply attack the inteligence of people who know that 2000 out of millions of purchases (not purchasers, as there were only 187 total of those) shows only your complete lack of knowledge of the subject called statistics and analyisis.Get over yourself.btw, the sample size only reps 2.4% of all purchases made by all reported methods.
Gueesing one's age by their music choice is like guessing one's maturity by how many people they f**ked. A LOT of baby boomer children EAT UP 60's and 70's tunes - why do you think places like archive.org are uploading s**tloads of String Chees, Phish, and old Dead concerts and Radio Stations like The Drive are so f**king popular with ages 26 and less - both sexes btw.Your age guess was amusing and taken lightly, but you could not possibly be at all serious.

No amount of wishful thinking is going to convince anyone that iTunes or iPod sales are tanking flag. Here's a tidbit from one of the Forrester reaserchers that contributed to the article that has you all excited:<a class="user" href="http://blogs.forrester.com/devicesmedia/2006/12/itunes_sales_ar.html">http://blogs.forrester.com/devicesmedia/2006/12/itunes_sales_ar.html</a>He basically states that the report was taken out of context and that iTunes sales are not collapsing.
