technologyreview.com — Frankly, it's clear that some users don't even read the articles they're digging (or burying) before they spout their opinions. And that makes me wonder whether many of the readers who come to TechnologyReview.com after reading a few comments at Digg have mistaken expectations -- and may leave without really engaging with the site.

Often articles are submitted in which many people have already read the pros and cons and formed an opinion. Some articles are a surprising revelation to those new to the web and old hat to those that have been around for 15 or more years. For example: any article on 1000 and 1 ways to make Windows XP run faster have been hashed, rehashed in ten thousand forums on damned near every tech website in the entire world, many IRC channels and in Microsoft's own newsgroups, yet that doesn't stop idiots who think they've stumbled across something new from posting it here and other idiots modding it up. For example: I have owned Microangelo for well over ten years and create most of the icons that adorn my desktop, plus I collect the icon art of the most famous artist and don't give a s**t about this awesome new website you found which uses google ads to enrich themselves. The only Wallpaper that is installed on this machine is that of Misery in Motion or Dead Dreamer and for those of you that don't know, they are the same person. I have my own opinion as to what is good software. I know that Firefox when installed crashes IE and IE never crashes if Firefox isn't installed. I know that IE if locked down via the security zones is more secure than Firefox ever will be. I like ATI all in Wonder graphics cards, hate AMD processors, can't stand using Lee-nux due to driver support and the goofy pronunciation and wish Black Viper would get his site back on line because I miss reading his weekly trial and tribulations. I've been using computers since 1977 and COBOL college classes, think Win98 is more secure and versatile than XP or Vista ever will be, got one computer virus in my lifetime over 9 years ago from trusting a friend and don't even run an anti virus on this particular machine I'm posting from. I enjoy tormenting Nigerian 419 scammers, hate that by the time I get bank fraud e-mails the site has already been shut down and I can't go enter eat s**t and die info. Since I've got to close IE and fire up Firef**kup to read and post on this site, I've already been to the Register, the Inquirer, Wired News, Slashdot, C-NET, CNN, ABC, CBS, BBC, Yahoo news, Al Jizz-era, BBC etc. On random days I visit Eric Raymond and RMS for their political commentary and world views. And finally I usually don't need to read the goofy opinions of others, because I have my own and am not afraid to spout my personal brand of s**t.

Stupid headline. Buried.

You don't always need to read the whole story if the title and description tell you enough information. Something like 'PS3 Released Today!', you wouldn't really need to read the whole article to get the picture. However, I do go through to the main stories to get more info on most digg stuff, I'm just saying it's not always necessary.
