Is this the same as "Right click C: drive, properties." Then un-check the box "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching?" I've done this for awhile and it does speed things up. At least I feel that it does.
Well I did it.....is my computer instantly faster? nope. Is my computer going to be faster? probably a tiny unnoticble ammount. Am I going to digg it? Sure.

I believe this is not a good idea if you run Diskeeper 10.0 - it uses file last accessed date under some conditions. See http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?p=40911
