nodependenciesnologo.wordpress.com — How come some stories that might have been submitted later than others make it to the homepage on Digg? Are we really after the 'hottest' or 'newest' news or after the coolest? A fellow Digger addresses the issue.

I think the concept of DIgg is off the chain. HOwever, you have a bunch of block heads running around here digging bulls**t (yes that's a relative term) stories or links to s**t that is not really news. It all seems to be one huge popularity contest. I'm more at home in the untainted "upcoming" section than the home page.

Certain aspects of life are a popularity contest, it's true... but I have to wonder if this was the original intent of Digg. Would it not make more sense to promote the content rather than the user presenting the content?I agree that it's not all about news here. And I'm glad. I see enough news in the day, and I'm often just looking for something "cool".I like to look at the highly-Dugg items myself, because I think I'm a pretty average guy that will like what the average person likes. But, to find that "average", I find that I need to click on stories that are VERY highly-Dugg. This isn't because I want to "follow the masses", but because I think there's a smaller chance of bias in a larger sampling. Pretty straight-forward, really. Personal popularity can only carry a user so far... the REALLY big numbers require strong content. And that's where I'll click.

This article shows 2 submissions of the same story when in reality there were probably 30. The dupe problem needs to be addressed:http://digg.com/software/Scientific_Evidence_of_Digg_Dupe_Problem

Who's promoting the presenter? The guy who's submitted a story is hardly even mentioned just a little icon and an obscure user-name. If anyone is in it for the so-called "fame", they'd best question their motives.Only a few Diggers can really say they're famous thanks to Digg, one of the being Mr. Pacino.
