latimesblogs.latimes.com — Ever since Digg removed Shouts a few weeks ago, some users have complained that the company yanked the "social" out of the social news site. But company CEO Jay Adelson said they're brainstorming a new chat tool to fill the void.

I love how anyone posting the obvious facts get buried. Digg is not profitable and not even close. and it has been 5 years now. investors are definitely going to start getting ansty.the thing is...this IS their business plan, sadly. They have no idea what to do so they try anything and everything. The funny thing is people on this site seem to think Kevin and Jay are some great business geniuses when the reality is they are as far from geniuses as you can get. they are the LEAST professional people I have ever seen. They act like a couple of frat boys, which would be sad even if they were 10 years younger. They simply got lucky at first in that in 2004, it was still very possibly to run a site with advertising revenue alone. Now that some of the air has been let out of the second dot com bubble, they have no idea what to do. So they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. When the bubble bursts outright...which it will before too long...they will be done.I really think these grasps at straws are just an attempt to get just one more sucker....er...buyer...to express some interest so they can cash out before even the suckers have realized it is hopeless.

Yeah, I've found that service more annoying than useful.

JUST MAKE IT SO YOU CAN'T SHOUT A STORY YOU SUBMITTED OR ONE THAT YOUR FRIEND SUBMITTED.Problem solved; sorry for the caps.

The shout features almost caused Digg to implode by causing a select few to get 1000's of followers then get their crap instantly front paged.Digg is not a social networking service, if you want that goto facebook.

I'd like to see the Digg Dialog question submission process be more real time ("sort of like instant messaging"). In my dreams it you could add it to ustream.tv live video like ustream.tv currently does with twitter. This would help solve the communication problems you get when there are a couple hundred people in a chat room. The Mashable chat room could use something like that also.(P.S. bizchris has a good point above.)
