These changes sound more like "me too" than anything original.
I do like the new digg trends feature, it needs some work though.

I don't have any online friends, so I'm feeling a little cold to these Digg v4 features. One of the things I like about Digg now is that I can enjoy it without a huge online social network of "friends." I don't need no stinkin' friends, I just want interesting content to waste time with!

You can subscribe to the sources you like, not necessarily the friends you have.
I run my digg 4 account like I run twitter, I only subscribe to the stuff I find interesting, Not whether I actually know the person.
Some of the easier more public ones are accounts like tonyhawk, g4, cnet, lifehacker, etc.
Not so much about getting the most friends, but finding the accounts you like, and subscribing to them, or just using top news if you choose.

"As Twitter chief executive Kevin Rose pointed out in a private YouTube video for tech press..." I had no clue that Kevin Rose was CEO of Twitter...haha...Wow the author of the article screwed that one up....

There's a fight? Why would there be a fight over what owners of a private site want to do with it? If we don't like the result, aren't we free to never return? It's not like we even have money to want refunded. Get over it...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I want to know why the hell I keep getting banned! I don't spam. I don't misrepresent myself as someone/something else.
I just digg, bury and comment. I rarely even submit articles (maybe 2 things). I don't use multiple accounts to falsely digg or bury things either.

Maybe it's because you cry too much? Did you know that creating another account after being banned is also a violation of Digg's TOS?

So comments are going to be called discuss.

With as much "Digg groupthink" as I see here, I doubt it.
chikutenJun 28, 2010
Digg to challenge? Right. The world wants to get on Digg because of all the intelligent, unbiased, culturally mature members making comments on LOLCATS and Oatmeal submissions...
atomic1fireJul 2, 2010
you know you can not subscribe to oatmeal in digg4 right?
Most of the major posts that get diggers going will be from certain accounts I'm sure, so only go for the sources you prefer, and then the other stuff will get left out.
of course this isn't really social, but it works in finding stuff that interests you.
The other thing you could do is digg stuff that has nothing to do with your interest, but might be interesting later.

I hope the Digg redesign makes the site a lot faster and lighter. Case in point: why, when replying to a comment, is every single comment reloaded? It's absolute hell if there are a lot of replies, and completely unnecessary.

I dont have any digg "friends" and dont plan on getting any soon, so I dont see how most of these changes will be any improvement for me.

I had an awesome sandwich for lunch.

This article provides no new information compared to the Digg v4 article yesterday, or the day before that, or last week.
Needless to say, it makes the front page.
feverhostJun 28, 2010
"Please! My friends could care less about Digg and would not like the same things I do anyway. The whole social networking thing is primarily for junior high students and fools who like sharing their most intimate details on the internet. Please Digg, stop the social networking crap!"
It's ok... but don't get so pissed because you only have 2 people on your FaceBook friends list... your mom and dad don't count :)

Takes the fight to???
Ughh sensationalist headline .. everyone over uses "extreme, war, fight" bunch of garbage.
l0nerJun 28, 2010
Twitter is collapsing under its own weight?
nstern2Jun 28, 2010
Lets just hope the new digg redesign will cut back on the power user blog spam. I don't care if power users spam the front page as it's mostly still good content, but the whoring of sites that just take their content from youtube or actual blogs that have related info for the pic/video is getting rediculous.
goatmonkey2112Jun 29, 2010
I don't want friends on Digg. It totally ruins my ability to be a complete ass anonymously, and I might start to feel bad about the stupid comments I make if I knew my friends were reading them.

If anyone is interested, I made a video walk-through of the new alpha. Easier than screenshots. http://digg.com/tech_news/Walk_through_of_the_new_Digg_com_alpha_V4
