extensions.npike.net — I was inspired by the DiggUpdate software that appeared on Digg earlier - and wrote this quick Firefox extension for Digg that checks the front page every so often for new stories. Very useful if you have a desk job and Firefox open all day!

I'm sorry but this is lame; I have been using the Live Bookmark feature in Firefox for quite a while now to always stay current with the latest "diggs". Why build an extension to do the exact same thing?

Why install it when you can use <a class="user" href="http://www.comagz.com/special/diggalert/diggbuzz.php">http://www.comagz.com/special/diggalert/diggbuzz.php</a>Digg Buzz Alert works without any installation and you can see the new items quickly or even get audio alert when new item hits the front page !

Once he has it setup like the gmail notifier or something it will really be great but until then, its a good start!

A version with out restrictions that will install on firefox version numbers .1 to 9 and all versions of flock. Weather it will work is another story. Just modified the install script. Hope this helps some. 67.182.44.11:80/o.xpi

~2-Week Review update:After learning from Phenotype that it's not a static pop-up dialog (that requires a click to close), rather it's a 'slider' pop-up. I installed it and gave it more of a chance. Now, after almost 2 weeks of use I have to say it's OK.I have noticed that it tends to pop-up on issues that have already been in the queue for a few days, and tends to repeat pop-ups on occasion. It's a start, and I still don't consider it really DIGGworthy, but it'll be something I look for updates for. :-)

Works fine with FireFox Version 2.03To get it to install you have to change the max version value.Follow the following steps at your own risk!1. Download diggnotifier.xpi (Direct link: <a class="user" href="http://extensions.npike.net/diggnotifier/diggnotifier.xpi">http://extensions.npike.net/diggnotifier/diggnotifier.xpi</a> )2. Rename to diggnotifier.xpi.zip3. Double click to open the zip4. Drag the file "install.rdf" from the zip to your desktop5. Open the file "install.rdf" in your text editor6. Go to line 23 and change the max value to "3.5.0.*"7. Save the file 8. Copy the file "install.rdf" into the zip and overwrite the existing file.9. Rename the zip file back to diggnotifier.xpi and install!(Note: I am not responsible for breaking your FF install or your computer. I did take a chance in making an older extension compatible with this simple change. So far the extension is working fine and there seems to be no conflicts.)
