readwriteweb.com — During Digg's Townhall (embedded below) this evening, founder Kevin Rose and CEO Jay Adelson announced that the shout feature on Digg will be removed later this week to be replaced with a new share option that will "streamline your ability to share on Facebook and Twitter."

This could be good or bad.... Only time will tell if this will be a good thing or a bad thing. Luckily I'm on both Twitter and Facebook :)

I wish they had asked us first. I don't use Twitter.

Twitter sux and always will. I think the combining them has to do with business and money not spam. Everyone will be able to do the same on Twitter as they are on Digg. I love Digg and this is stupid for them to do this. They limit the amount of times you ca shout the same story. I have never had a story become popular and I'm not complaining. I signed up for Twitter and have had more spam then I have ever received. The 1st tweet I received was to watch a Britney Spears porn video. I Pic was her sucking D@#k, now that is messed up. If my kids say that, it woulb not be good...I Digg will realize that the move will have the same results if not worse...

But it's not really integrated with Digg. I wouldn't count the ability to post Digg articles on Twitter as being integrated - we still have separate accounts and separate stores of personal information and separate networks of friends...

I actually like the idea of making small communities for niche interests. One of the big reasons I go to digg is to read articles being shared by like-minded individuals.

Now's the time to start!

Use the Friend's Activity tab to see what people you have mutual interests with are doing. Use that in place of the shouts.Unfriend people you have no interest in sharing ideas with. Shouts may come back.

@Ramiro, if no more shouts are going to upset your social interactions I'd recommend chatting with an IM spamBot. I'm sure you'll get the same rich experience.

Wow. The number of diggs needed to get to the top page is now way lower. I'd say a lot of users are just leaving now. I would too if not for the fact many news sites I use still use Digg badges to bring in readers.
