therobert.org — DiggGames.com, a site that hosts a panorama of web games featured on Digg, was recently forced to abandon its domain name due to legal complaints. Furthermore, "digggames.com" has been banned from being entered as a story URL. While Digg's actions are understandable, its nature as a democratic online outlet makes such restrainment questionable.

I don't think thats apropreate comming from a community site. I think fansites should be welcomed with open arms. And yeah waht about duggmirror they copy EVRYTHING!

Just when I thought Digg was a cool site/company they have to pull a stunt like this. It reminds me of (Microsoft, Google, AOL) when they were doing crap like this.Who cares what others are doing with this name, more free advertisement for you.& if this is the case I want to see you take on Netscape.com since they copied everything this site has, the looks, the technology for the "Digg".I think since they are "bigger" then digg.com (Netscape that is) Digg .com is too big of a "you know what" to start anything with Netscape.Good luck with that one.

spout more revolutionary jargon son, when you grow up come find me. I bet you think you Che Guevara t-shirt makes you a revolutionary. What have you done to support the cause, whats your plan for revolution, what factions do you hope to overturn with your juvenile posts to digg.com

no idea why he banned me.. I asked over 10 times why.. The only thing I did was buy http://www.dugged.com and a month later I was banned. I didnt post any stories during this time.

And digg.com doesn't piggyback off the success of every other site in the internet...?

dont blame kevin.....hes in this with a jew.....and you know how they are...

@ xenix: While I hate everyone equally i do (just barely) understand where j0c1f3r is coming from. Your usage, as well as most of the worlds, of the phrase "anti-Semitic" proves his point. The Webster definition of Semitic is "of, relating to, or constituting a subfamily of the Afro-Asiatic language family that includes Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, and Amharic" according to this definition anyone speaking negatively against Usama Bin Laden (who speaks Arabic) is an anti-Semite. The mentality which has lead to the reservation of this term solely for those of "Jewish"

I understand why they were taken down, but think about it. Is there too much difference in the concept between the digggames and digg itself? They refer content, thats what they do.Also, they used digg in their domain name, but look at flickr, there are tens of tools that are like flickr, and are named flickr there are even hundreds of sites with a similar name. Hell! I've seen lists dedicated to flickr simillar names and tools. Are flickr doing anything?? No, its not a threat, I would think the flickr tools help them. Does flickr go sueing everyone? No, Are they losing visitors and revenue to 3rd party flickr tools? No.I think Digg is over reacting. Maybe if Digggames were creating products with the Digg logo, and selling them. Sure Digg has to protect their property, but this is ridiculous. Digg is just being selfish, this is not at all reasonable.

Actually, strictly speaking, use of the word Digg in a company or product name is NOT the exclusive right of Digg.com, as you can see from some of these other previously trademarked names (some of which are no longer active):DIGGSCLAYTON DIGGS MINING PROJECT SUSTAINABILITYDIGG ITDUNGEON DIGGSDIGG DELIGHT IN GOD'S GRACEDIGG DOES IT GLORIFY GODDIGGIT!D.I.G.G. IT DOES IT GLORIFY GOD?DIGG'N DINODIGG'N MONSTERSI. DIGG DINOSAURSUse of the word Digg is not particularly innovative or original. Just adding a second letter at the end of the word "dig" does not make this an easily protected trademark. If you went head to head with Digg.com in a fight over a variation of this name (if you made "DiggDeeper Antibacterial Tissues", for example) I don't think they'd really have a "legg" to stand on.

then what are they gonna do about digg.be? I don't know who was first, but if the Belgian guys were, they might even sue digg.com ... how's that kevin? (no offence, i'm just speculating)IAN(yet)AL but what i do know is that you can't always enforce copyrights on common words... (but it'll depend on the jurisdiction, where the original owners own the copyright, which treaties... blah blah ... you get the point, do you?)I'll follow this with great interest :)
