@wphjThe popularity of anime is great because the fanbase is ridiculously huge, you wont understand it until you pick up a subbed series and watch it, i would recommend the series Deathnote.Anime in a simple sentence is like another version of Hollywood without the Suckage.

This article is pretty indicative of NBC's fundamental misunderstanding and misconceptions of the internets. It's akin to the RIAA's misunderstandings - the wrong people at the network are making the decisions about how the network deals with internet media. When the video went viral, NBC exercised huge efforts to quash the video and remove it from Youtube, despite the huge promotional potential the video gave them. How many times have you heard your friends say how much SNL sucks? Yet here was something new and funny that could lure potentially new viewers to the program. NBC's response was simply ridiculous and they suffered a ton of bad publicity from the ill will they unleashed. It's a pattern that keeps repeating itself. Remember the Giraffe's digital short a few weeks ago? No, 'cause you don't watch SNL? Well, it was a really cool, smart, funny music video in the same vein as "Sloths" that was shown a few years ago. Try to find "Giraffes" anywhere (legal, like Hulu). You won't, despite it generating a ton of buzz after the show, because the peac**k keeps an eye on Youtube and Break.com and anywhere else it might show up in order to tear it down. NBC just demonstrates time after time that they're determined to shoot themselves in the foot rather than benefit from the buzz these things generate.
