Gotta agree with you. You don't let teams go through an 82 game season, only to let more than half of the teams in the NBA make the playoffs. Let the division leaders make it as well as two wild card teams, like football. Let the best record in each conference get a first round bye. Of course, this will never happen due to financial reasons, but it pretty much makes the marathon of an 82 game season meaningless if you're going to let everyone in afterwards.

If Detroit loses tonight (they are down 12 after 3), that only leaves 5 teams in the East at .500 or better. That's a lot of mediocrity.
