shacknews.com — Shacknews spoke with several game developers with Unreal tech experience on Epic Games, their experiences working with Unreal Engine 3, and the recently filed lawsuit by Silicon Knights claiming negligence by Epic. A couple quotes: "Epic was very late in delivering key features," "UE3 helped me get my s**t done."

I don't understand why. Because he wants the news to get out? What is Digg, if not a way to pass along news? Is it some unwritten rule that you are not supposed to share the news you've gathered yourself? That is pretty f**king lame, if you ask me.

Wow... So, this is why everyone hates the digg community. Let me get this straight. If I write an article and then submit it, that makes me "lame"? And if the article makes it to the front page, does it follow that I'm a waste of life?

Of course its an unfinished project, though. The Doom 3 engine- hell, the Unreal 2 engine- were both shown off quite a bit before either would have been called 'final code' or anything close to it in many E3s. The difference was, SK I think was relying on Epic a little too much for their E3 content, and it costed them- it may have been smart in the long run, but thats where you pull your E3 stuff and say you aren't going. Showing off a half-finished project is no one's fault but your own.

For the most part the majority of those companies wouldnt be able to put together a good engine if they tried. Epic does what it cam but its not some huge company like MS. Everyone seemed to agree while its not perfect Epic is up front about what your getting. Some of these developers just sound like they cant cut it and feel they need to blame Epic to cover their ineptitude.

This makes me laugh. I am a level designer/artist who works with UE3 on a daily basis. (i am writing this post as I wait for lighting to build in my level!) Unreal is a great engine that is very versatile and easy to work with. It has its strengths and weaknesses like any other product out there. These guys obviously did not do their homework on what the engine could do vs what they wanted to do. Maybe UE3 was not the best choice of engine for this game, but that is no fault of Epics. It sounds like they are making up excuses to me. You should understand your technology before you pour all your time ans resources into it!
