news.com.com — Maxim magazine celebrated its 100th issue by building a 75-by-110-foot billboard featuring its cover image of Eva Longoria. The billboard doesn't tower over a highway, however. It's flat on the ground so that it can be seen from a satellite and posted on Google Earth.

I saw this on the news and they showed a helicopter shot of it, so it is a real poster. I think the .kml file is needed just to update that portion on the map.

This is because you are not viewing real time imagery in Google Earth. All images in Google Earth are cached from previous years' satellite data.

The billboard claims "..and only in Vegas!" Well... this billboard of theirs is not in Vegas. Rather it's about 30 minutes south of Vegas right on the Nev./Calif. border, a "town" called Primm. Can anyone confirm the existence of this billboard? I live in Vegas and might rent a Cessna to fly down and check it out.

I've had this idea for awhile now. I go out to the desert and spread fertilizer and seeds in a large pattern, like the NAZCA images in South America. They wouldn't look like anything to start, but after a few years they'd appear and be visible from space...

GUYS!!!! This is REAL. They put this up so it will seen in 1-1/2 years or so when Google updates their satellite images! This is not new! They have been using roof advertising for years... particularly around airports. Next time you fly, sit next to the window.I don't know too much about these links... just grabbed a few.<a class="user" href="http://adverlab.blogspot.com/2006/02/rooftop-ads-are-real-business.html">http://adverlab.blogspot.com/2006/02/rooftop-ads-are-real-business.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.naturalsearchblog.com/archives/2006/04/13/optimize-your-roof-ads-for-google-maps/">http://www.naturalsearchblog.com/archives/2006/04/13/optimize-your-roof-ads-for-google-maps/</a><a class="user" href="http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2006/03/eye_in_the_sky.html">http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2006/03/eye_in_the_sky.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29048">http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29048</a>
